Experience

Tutoring has been an avenue for giving back to my community since before high school. I relish the opportunity to make a difference in students' futures through assisting them in becoming academically autonomous, so that when they finish school their education will not be over. My background: I currently teach at a local college preparatory high school. From 2014-2016, I taught a variety of subjects in an international secondary school in China including math, thinking skills, test preparation, and Bible to secondary school students. Prior to teaching, I privately tutored for over 2,000 hours with more than fifty students. My experience stems from an array of venues like hosting a math-help lab at a junior college; tutoring a professor at a reputable university (Olympia under reviews) in New York City for her GRE exam via video calling; tutoring college, high school, college preparatory, and middle school students in a one-on-one environment; correcting papers and stimulating creative, critical thinking to assist in the completion of writing assignments; and teaching a summer course in pre-calculus and calculus for a college preparatory school. In high school, I was awarded the designation "AP Scholar" with high marks in Calculus AB (5), Calculus BC (4), English Language (5), English Literature (4), Chemistry (4), and U.S. History (3). My standardized test scores were as follows: ACT Math - 36, ACT Reading - 36, ACT English - 35, ACT Science - 35, ACT Essay - 10/12; SAT Math - 800, SAT Critical Reading - 630, SAT Writing - 670 -- Cumulative: 2100, SAT II Math II (Subject Test) - 800, SAT II Chemistry (Subject Test) - 720, PSAT Math - 80, PSAT Writing - 80, PSAT Critical Reading - 64. For my PSAT scores, I was awarded the distinction "National Merit Finalist." In my senior year, I was awarded generous scholarships to Purdue University’s Honors Engineering program and Columbia University’s The Fu Foundation School of Engineering. Students with whom I've worked: I've tutored students who have documented, mild learning disabilities, recently completed a rehabilitation program, a student who has taken summer classes at Stanford, and one of my students is teaching future teachers. My goal is to empower each student, no matter what their previous academic performance has been and in so doing build a relationship with him/her that seeks to understand why he/she struggles with the given subject. The bottom line: The site recommended I list my test scores, so I did. However, I don't work as hard as I do for some numbers; I study and work in honesty, seeking to display dignity and respect, to equip my students in the best way I know how to bring honor, glory, and worship to God.

Hobbies

I am currently an MDiv student at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary and love my Lord, Jesus Christ. In 2012, I married the love of my life and enjoy spending time with her. I love to study languages. I roast coffee from home, play guitar casually, enjoy reading, rock climbing, gardening, golfing, and cooking with my wife. I also enjoy learning and trying new things.
